Cowgirl Deep Threat Too Much for Lady Bears on the Road

STILLWATER, Okla. – Missouri State women’s basketball fell to 2-2 on the season following an 82-51 loss on the road at Oklahoma State (3-3) on Sunday afternoon.

The deep ball for OSU and a critical second quarter Cowgirl run were the difference-makers in this one as the Cowgirls knocked down 15 triples (15-27, .556) to Missouri State’s four treys (4-15) on the afternoon.

The beginning of the game saw both teams struggle offensively with neither team putting points on the board until a Kennedy Taylor layup at the 6:37 mark of the first period. From there, the squads swapped baskets with Taylor tying the game at 12-12 with 0:39 remaining. However, the Cowgirls started to heat up with their third triple of the opening stanza with 0:15 left to take a 15-12 lead after one in Stillwater.

Oklahoma State continued the momentum into what would be a second quarter dominated by the Cowgirls. After an OSU triple and a Lacy Stokes layup to make it a four-point game, OSU went on a 19-0 run that spanned over seven minutes to push the Cowgirls’ lead to 23 points. The Lady Bears were held to just 14 percent from the field and 29 percent from the charity stripe, while the Cowgirls went 70 percent from the field, 63 percent from three and 88 percent at the line.

Oklahoma State outscored MSU 26-6 in the second quarter to carry a 41-18 lead into the halftime break.

Out of the half, the Lady Bears continued to struggle offensively as they were never able to get within striking distance of the Cowgirls. MSU was able to go a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line in the third quarter, and the Lady Bears put together their best quarter of the afternoon in the fourth after scoring seven consecutive points to begin the period.

The firepower of the Cowgirls from behind the arc proved to be too much to overcome as the Lady Bears dropped their second game of the season.

Stokes led the way for MSU with 14 points, while Indya Green contributed eight points and a team-high five rebounds. Oklahoma State had five players in double figures, led by Anna Gret Asi with 24 points (9-13 FG, 6-9 3FG).

Missouri State will return home on Friday, Dec. 1 as the Lady Bears welcome Tulane to Springfield. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. at Great Southern Bank Arena. The game will stream on ESPN+.
