Tucker’s two goals sinks Southwest Baptist

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Kourtney Tucker scored both Drury goals in a 2-0 win over Southwest Baptist at Harrison Stadium / Curry Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers lifted their record to 10-2-1 and 7-1-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The win also put Drury’s record at 5-0 on their home field this season. The Bearcats fell to 3-8-3 and 1-6-2 in the GLVC.

Tucker got Drury on the board in the 31st minute and scored her third goal of the season firing a shot into the lower right side of the net. Andrea Camargo picked up the assist. Tucker scored again just before halftime as the senior from Springfield-Central sent the ball to the upper left side of the goal on an assist from Audrey Camargo.

“The first couple of corners didn’t come off my foot right,” said Tucker. “We pulled someone else in to take corners and I just said to myself that I’m going to get one. I just went in and got that first one and I just tried to stay calm and composed when it came to me again and was able to get the second one.”

The two goals are the multi-goal game for a Drury player this season and mark a career-high for Tucker.

The two scores held up as Kaitlin Knetzke saw eight shots and made four saves while recording her ninth shutout of the year. Drury had a 30-8 advantage in shots and the Panthers put 11 on goal.

Tamerra Gantt had three shots, all on goal, to lead Southwest Baptist. Gantt, who leads her team with four goals this season, nearly tied the game midway through the first half when she broke through the Drury defense and fired a shot that hit the right post.

“We were coming off of a tough result last week and the theme for us all week was: what’s our response going to be?” said Drury head coach Justin Olson. “I was really happy getting two first half goals. They put some good pressure on us early and they are a well-coached team so I was happy with how our defense held up.”

The Panthers return to action on Friday when they host Rockhurst for a 5 p.m. game at the Lake Country Soccer Complex.
