Panthers open 2023-24 season at McKendree

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Both of Drury’s swimming & diving teams opened the 2023-24 season at the McKendree triangular against the Bearcats and St. Louis University. The Drury men’s team defeated St. Louis University 229-86 and lost to second-ranked McKendree 213-102. DU’s women’s squad took down the Bilikins 217-98 and defeated McKendree, ranked 10th in NCAA-II, 164-151.
 
Women’s highlights

  • Drury won the 400 medley relay (Lexie Waller, Claire Conover, Mellie Wijk, and Josie Bushell) with a time of 3:53.68
  • Maria Munoz won three events: the 200 Fly (2:03.86), the 100 Fly (56.57), and the 400 IM (4:26.00)
  • The Panthers were 1-2-3 in the 200 IM as Mellie Wijk won the event (2:08.76) and was followed by Clarie Conover (2:10.01) and Luisa Machado (2:12.23)
  • Ashlyn Moore took the 100 Free (52.03)
  • Lexie Waller was first in the 200 Back (2:05.11)
  • Claire Conover won the 200 Breast (2:22.16)
  • The Panthers ended the meet with a win in the 400 Free Relay (Bushell, Walker, Moore and Wijk) with a time of 3:28.57 to beat McKendree by 0.51 seconds

 
Men’s highlights

  • Drury was 1-2 in the 100 Back as Ivan Adamchuk won (50.00) and Victor Khnykin was second (50.43)
  • Adamchuk returned to win the 200 IM (1:52.37)
  • Cole Earl won both diving events as the fifth-year senior from Springfield-Glendale won the 1-meter with a score of 271.45 and the 3-meter competition with a total of 290.25

 
The Panthers compete again and will have their home opener on Nov. 3-4 when they host the Drury Invitational at the Breech Pool
