Women’s Soccer Opens Conference Play with Tie

MURRAY, Ky. – The Missouri State women’s soccer team added another draw to its season tally to open Missouri Valley Conference play on Sunday at Murray State.

In the 90 minutes, the Bears were out shot by the Racers, 14 – 12. Murray State also had more shots on goal with seven to the Bears’ six.

Gracie English led the Bears’ offensive efforts with four shots and two on-goal. Grace O’Keefe, Ana Paula Fraiz and Reilly Heman were close behind with two shots and one on-goal each.

The game marks the fourth shutout of the season for goalkeeper Camielle Day. All seven on-target shots from the Racers turned into saves for Day for a new season-high. This was the eighth game this season where Day played the full 90 minutes.

“That was a tough game on the road. Conference play will be an extremely hard journey,” head coach Kirk Nelson said.  “I’m very pleased with the shutout. We will take the point and now focus on the next one. We are looking forward to playing at home.”

The Bears are back at home on Sept. 21 at 7:00 p.m. to face Illinois State in their first home game in two weeks.
