Drury falls short vs. 18th Indianapolis

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – 18th ranked Indianapolis stayed unbeaten with a 3-1 win over Drury at Harrison Stadium in Springfield on Sunday.

Drury fell to 0-3-3 and 0-1-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Greyhounds lifted their record to 4-0-1 and 2-0 in the league.

Indianapolis scored the game’s first two goals, notching a score 19 minutes in from Kabiru Gafar, his second of the year, and another in the 25th minute by Owen Atkison. The Panthers battled back, though, and earned a penalty kick in the 34th minute. Jacob Schmidt converted for his first goal of the season and Drury trailed 2-1 at halftime. The Greyhounds gave themselves a cushion in the 65th minute, though, as Michael Tselios scored his first goal of the year and gave Indianapolis a 3-1 lead.

While Indianapolis had a 16-11 advantage in shots in the game, their shots on goal were just one more than Drury’s total at 7-6. Gafar added an assist to finish with three points in Sunday’s game.

Drury returns to the pitch on Friday and will face another ranked team as they take on eighth-ranked Maryville at 1:30 p.m. in St. Louis, Missouri.
