Women’s Golf Wraps NCAA Regional in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Missouri State’s women’s golf squad concluded its 2022-23 season Wednesday (May 10) as the Bears wrapped play at the NCAA Women’s Golf Regional at the TPC of San Antonio’s Oaks Course, finishing in 12th place in the field of a dozen teams. 

After earning an automatic NCAA berth into the 72-team field by winning the Missouri valley Conference Tournament, April 16-18, the Bears began the 54-hold regional event with an opening-round 314 to sit in 11th place after one day and three strokes ahead of Big 10 champion Illinois. Tuesday’s second-round 327 score dropped MoState to the back of the pack, and the Bears could not close the gap on Wednesday, carding a 317 to finish 314-327-314–958 (+94).

Senior Arielle Keating was coach Kevin Kane’s top performer for the event, finishing in 46th place with scores of 72-81-79–232 on the par-72 course. Fellow seniors Abby Cavaiani (80-82-79–241) and Faith Hopkins (80-81-80–241) were next for MSU, tying for 56th place in the field of 66 individuals.

No. 18-ranked Pepperdine (299-292-282–873) and No. 27 SMU (296-289-288–873) shared top team honors, while No. 22 Oklahoma State (295-293-292–880) shared third place with No. 6 Texas A&M (295-286-299-880), and New Mexico (298-302-289–889) also advanced to the NCAA Nationals with a fifth-place finish.

Individually, UTSA’s Camry Carreon (71-67-68–206) was 10-under and top medalist at the event, six strokes ahead of UCLA’s Zoe Campos (70-72-70–212).
