Keating Shines for Bears on Day One at Golf Regional

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Missouri State senior Arielle Keating fired an even-par 72 in Monday’s (May 8) first round of the NCAA Women’s Golf San Antonio Regional and is tied for fifth place after the first day’s action. After bogeying her first two holes, Keating responded with birdies on three of the next five and was on her way to the Bears’ best round of the day and one of the best in the 66-player field.

As a team, MSU is 11th of 12 teams after posting 314 at the tough TPC of San Antonio Oaks Course. Sixth-ranked Texas A&M and #22 Oklahoma State share the first-round lead at 295, with SMU a stroke back in third and UCLA and New Mexico tied for fourth at 298. Pepperdine is sixth with 299, followed by Denver (302), Auburn (304), Sam Houston (308), ULM (311), the Bears and Big Ten champion Illinois (317).

Individually for MSU, seniors Abby Cavaiani and Faith Hopkins carded 80, senior Faith Belmear had 82, and junior Kayla Pfitzner shot 88.

Round Two is slated to begin with tee times at 9:06 Tuesday morning for the Bears, who’ll be paired with ULM and Illinois.
