Panthers advance to GLVC Tournament as 6th seed; DU to face Maryville on Thur. at 12:30 pm

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—  The Drury Panthers clinched a Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament bid while idle this weekend and will be the number six seed on the league bracket. Drury will take on third-seeded Maryville in the opening round on Thursday 12:30 pm at Mountain Dew Park in Marion, Illinois.
 
The Panthers are 27-23 and ended the regular season 17-15 in the GLVC to finish in a three-way tie for fifth with Indianapolis and William Jewell. The head-to-head records serving as the tie-breaker, UIndy went 5-3 among the three teams head-to-head to obtain the fifth seed, the Panthers went 4-4 in those games, while William Jewell was 3-5 head-to-head and will be the seventh seed.
 
Maryville is 32-16 and went 21-11 in the GLVC to finish third. The Saints swept Drury in a four-game series in St. Louis March 4-5, but two of the four games were decided by a single run. Maryville won 3-2 and 14-6 on March 4, then swept the Panthers a day later, 7-2 and 6-5. All four were non-conference games on the schedule. The Saints were ranked third in the Midwest Region last week.
 
Other first round match-ups on Thursday include: regular season champion and seventh-ranked Quincy (40-9, 27-5) vs. eighth-seeded Missouri S&T (24-22, 15-17), number two seed and 21st ranked Illinois Springfield (35-11, 25-7) vs. seventh-seeded William Jewell (29-21, 17-15), and fourth-seeded Lewis (29-21, 20-12) vs. number five seed Indianapolis (32-17, 17-15).
 
The winner of the Drury-Maryville game on Thursday will advance to the winner’s bracket and face the winner of the Illinois Springfield-William Jewell game on Friday at 4 pm. The loser of those two games will meet in an elimination game on Friday at 9 am.
 
The double-elimination tournament continues through the championship round on Sunday in Marion, Illinois.
 
Each day of the four-day event, ticket prices will be $12 for adults and $5 for youth (ages 6-17) and students (with ID), while children five and under are free. There will also be a $40 all-tournament pass available for purchase. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket link on the Championship homepage GLVCsports.com/2023baseball.
