The Missouri men’s basketball team added another elite shooter to its roster on Monday with the addition of Iowa State transfer Caleb Grill (Wichita, Kan.).
Appearing in 25 games with 22 starting assignments during the 2022-23 campaign, Grill led the Cyclones by connecting on 36.8 percent of his 3-pointers last year, ranking 11th in the Big 12 with 2.12 makes per game. Overall, Grill has sunk 178 triples during his collegiate career, connecting on at least 50 in each of the last three seasons.
“Caleb is a veteran winner who has big-game experience during his college career,” said Whitten Family Men’s Basketball Head Coach Dennis Gates. “His production speaks for itself and his perimeter scoring will elevate our offense. He epitomizes our eight core values and we have no doubt that his winning experience will be a welcome addition to our program.”
A 6-foot-3 guard from Wichita, Kansas, Grill drilled 53 triples last season after leading Iowa State with 57 made 3-pointers during the 2021-22 campaign. He tallied 9.5 points per game in his final season with the Cyclones to go with 4.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.24 steals per game.
Grill scored in double figures in 10-of-25 games during the 2022-23 campaign with at least three made 3-pointers in 12 contests. The highlight of his campaign was a 31-point performance in a victory over No. 1 North Carolina, making seven triples in the winning effort. With Grill leading the team from behind the arc, the Cyclones reached as high as No. 11 in the national poll this year, one season after he helped Iowa State to a Sweet 16 appearance in the 2022 NCAA Tournament.
Overall, Grill has totaled 770 points during his career – shooting 34.2 percent from 3-point range in three seasons at Iowa State and one year at UNLV.
Grill is Mizzou’s fourth signee of the spring period as the Tigers currently own the No. 3 class in the On3 Transfer Portal Rankings. Grill, Indiana transfer Tamar Bates, National Junior College Player of the Year Curt Lewis and Colorado State John Tonje join a program that is coming off one its most successful campaigns in years during the 2022-23 season as the Tigers finished with 25 wins in their first season under Gates – their most in 11 campaigns – while claiming their first NCAA Tournament victory in 13 years.
Mizzou also owns a top-25 freshman class – singing Jordan Butler, Trent Pierce and Anthony Robinson II to National Letters of Intent in November to go with preferred walk-ons in JV Brown and Danny Stephens.
