SMITHVILLE, Mo.— Drury will advance to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Match Play tournament on Sunday after finishing fourth in the league tournament’s 54-hole stroke play event at the Outlaw course at the Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Missouri, on Saturday.
The top four teams in the 11-team event advanced to the GLVC Match Play semifinals. The Panthers finished Saturday’s third and final round with an 82-over-par 946 and were 16 strokes ahead of fifth-place Maryville.
Indianapolis, ranked 11th in NCAA-II, finished first at 28-over-par and completed the third round with a 47-shot lead over second-place Missouri-St. Louis. Illinois Springfield was third at 79-over-par.
Shehna Akbary was fifth on the individual leaderboard and named to the All-GLVC team for her performance. The junior from Toronto, Ont., Canada, shot Drury’s best round in the tournament on Saturday with a one-over-par 73 and completed the 54-hole round with an 11-over-par 227.
Grace Stafford tied for 14th, shooting 20-over-par (236) in the tournament, while Carmen Fletcher came in tied for 18th (+24, 240). Isabelle Thrall finished 31 shooting a 32-over-par 248 and Abby Howard tied for 37th, posting a 37-over-par 253.
Katelyn Skinner from Indianapolis won GLVC medalist honors by eight shots as she finished even-par (70-75-71—216).
The Panthers are seeded fourth in the Match Play semifinals and will face top-seeded Indianapolis at 8 am on Sunday. The winner will advance to the GLVC Championship and play the winner of second-seeded UMSL and number three seed Illinois Springfield on Sunday afternoon at the Paradise Pointe Golf Complex.
