Panthers win GLVC Quarterfinal match over McKendree

 
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.— Drury advanced to the Great Lakes Valley Conference semifinals with a 4-0 win over McKendree in the league quarterfinals on Friday in Indianapolis, Indiana.
 
The Panthers move to the next round with a 14-4 record and ended McKendree’s season at 8-6.
 
Drury took a 1-0 lead after doubles with wins with their top two teams. Ewa Samberger and Kseniia Eremina defeated Viloa Cipriani and Camilla Fonseca 6-2 in the number one match. Maria De La Torre Ugarte Espejo and Clara Kuehnle clinched the point for the Panthers with their 6-4 win over Rhyan Cook and Mariana Caicedo.
 
Drury then clinched the quarterfinal win with victories from their top three singles players. Drury’s number two player, Clara Kuehnle gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Viloa Cipriani. Ewa Samberger then picked up a win over Mariana Caicedo 6-1, 6-2.
 
Nastasia Jedrychowski, ranked 38^th nationally and named the GLVC Player of the Year on Thursday night, then clinched the win after recovering from a first set loss. Manuela Barriga won the first set 6-4, but Jedrychowski won the next two 6-3, 6-0.
 
The Panthers will play the winner of Lewis and Rockhurst in the GLVC semifinals on Saturday in Indianapolis.
