Panthers rally past McKendree in GLVC Quarterfinals

 
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.— Mark Drozdetskii came through with a win that broke a 3-3 tie and delivered a quarterfinal victory for Drury over McKendree in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament on Friday in Indianapolis, Indiana.
 
The Panthers, seeded third in the West Division, advance to the semifinals with a 10-5 record. The Bearcats, number two in the East, are knocked out of the tournament with a 12-5 mark.
 
Drozdetskii, a sophomore from Lipetsk, Russia, rebounded from a 6-3 loss in the first set and came back to beat Nanase Ebisu, winning the next two sets 6-1 and 6-2.
 
Drury battled back for the win after falling behind 1-0 as McKendree won two doubles matches.
 
In a battle of nationally ranked singles players, McKendree’s Leonardo Frederico, ranked 13^th, got past fifth-ranked Sylvain Garin-Michaud 6-2, 6-4.
 
Drury’s Yaroslav Sharry, a freshman ranked 40^th nationally, defeated Benedek Szombathelyi 7-6, 6-1. Marlon Wilken also gave Drury a win as he took down 33^rd ranked Jordi Leston 6-2, 6-2. Tjade Bruns battled past Jose Velasco in three sets, 6-3, 6-7, 6-4.
 
The Panthers will play Southwest Baptist in the GLVC Semifinals on Saturday in Indianapolis.
