Cabrera, Piskulic Garner MVC Scholar-Athlete Honors

St. LOUIS – Missouri State tennis players Diana Cabrera and Alyson Piskulic were named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete team, the league announced Friday.

Cabrera and Piskulic were doubles partners all-season long, earning an overall record of 13-15. The senior duo went 4-6 in the fall, 9-9 in the spring and 3-5 in The Valley. Cabrera and Piskulic’s 13 wins were the highest on the team, and the pair was awarded MVC Doubles Team of the Week honors on March 15 after back-to-back wins in flight one.

“Diana and Alyson’s selection to the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team is a testament to the way they approach both the court and the classroom,” head coach Ellie Burger said. “I’m so glad they are ending their tennis and academic careers with this recognition. It’s well deserved, and I’m so proud of them.”

In singles, Cabrera earned an overall ledger of 11-19, including a 5-6 mark in the fall, highlighted by a second-place finish in No. 1 singles at the 2022 MVC Individual Championship. In the spring, Cabrera spent the entire time in the No. 1 slot, racking up six wins.

Piskulic holds a 9-21 overall mark in singles, with seven of her wins coming in duals. She began the spring with three-straight singles victories, also taking six out-of-her first seven matches (Jan. 27 – Feb. 23).

In the classroom, both student-athletes carry a 4.0. Cabrera is pursuing a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) with a certificate in Data Analytics, while Piskulic is working on a degree in Cell and Molecular Biology.

Missouri State concluded its season last weekend, splitting road duals against Valparaiso and UIC to finish 7-15, 2-6 MVC, in Burger’s first season.
