Drury finishes 5th at GLVC Championship

SMITHVILLE, Mo.— The Drury Panthers narrowly missed advancing to the match play round as they finished fifth in stroke play at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship on Monday at the Paradise Pointe Golf Complex in Smithville, Missouri. Maryville moved past Drury into fourth place in the final six holes in the 54-hole stroke play round to reach the semifinals. The top four teams in 54 holes of competition advance to the four-team match-play tournament on Tuesday.
 
Missouri-St. Louis, ranked 22^nd nationally, finished first with a three-over-par 867. Missouri S&T came in second at 21-over-par (885), and McKendree advances to Tuesday as the number three seed finishing 25-over (889). High winds on Sunday forced only 18 holes to be played on the first day of the tournament and pushed the second and third rounds to Monday.
 
Hunter Jowers led Drury and finished tied for 13^th,  finishing with a 10-over-par 226. The sophomore from Jonesboro, Arkansas, shot a 75 on Monday morning, then ended the tournament with his best round of the event, shooting a two-over 74.
 
Clayton Kaiser and Alex Wiseman both tied for 18^th shooting 229 (+13), and Walker Tynes came in tied for 24^th (+15, 231). Cooper Hess finished tied for 42^nd at 24-over-par (240).
 
Carl Miltun from Missouri S&T won the league’s individual title by 10 shots as he posted a 13-under-par 203 for the tournament. His second round 63 gave him a sizeable lead on the field going into the final 18 holes.
 
Drury’s fifth place finish improved their placement in the GLVC Championship by four spots, as they finished ninth last year. It also matches their best finish at the GLVC Championship since 2019.
