Panthers rally for split with Maryville

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury escaped a doubleheader with Maryville with a split as the Panthers lost game one 3-1, then scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win game two 2-1 on Saturday at Thompson Field in Springfield.
 
Drury ended the day 20-20 and 8-6 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while Maryville went to 24-14 and 12-4 in the GLVC.
 
In game one, the Saints scored a run in the first inning without getting a hit as they had two batters hit by a pitch, got a double steal, then got on the board with a wild pitch. Maryville took advantage of three Drury errors with two outs in the third and scored two more runs to go ahead 3-0.
 
The Panthers scored a run in the sixth as Lily Hinson scored from second base on an RBI single by Kailyne Luna. Drury got a two-out single by Sophie Luetticke in the bottom of the seventh, but Saints reliever Emerson Herron got a fly ball to left field to end the game.
 
Kristina Bettis (11-10) took the loss for Drury despite going all seven innings allowing just two hits, three runs and one earned run with no walks and seven strikeouts.
 
Chayse Ramey (8-6) got the win for Maryvvile and provided the Saints with 5.2 innings while allowing four hits, one run with three walks, and three strikeouts. Emerson Herron recorded the final four outs for her second save.
 
The Panthers won game two as they scored twice when they were down to their final out in the bottom of the seventh. Rylee Kolb’s single to center field drove in Taylor Harsell for the winning run. Drury tied the game in the previous at-bat on an RBI single by Camryn BeDelll.
 
Karsyn Smith (2-1) got the win for Drury as she fired all seven innings and allowed only four hits and one unearned run with no walks and two strikeouts. Maryville starter Emerson Heron (11-6) took the loss going 6.2 innings and gave up five hits and two runs with three walks and three strikeouts.
 
BeDell finished the game 2 for 3 with an RBI.
 
The two games were completed just before severe weather hit the area, as the doubleheader was moved up two hours to avoid inclement weather.
 
Drury continues the homestand on Sunday with a doubleheader against Missouri-St. Louis starting at 1:30 pm at Thompson Field.
