Softball Drops Series Finale at No. 12/11 LSU Saturday

BATON ROUGE, La. – The University of Missouri softball program (23-18, 3-12 SEC) dropped its series finale to No. 12/11 LSU (33-7, 6-6 SEC), 9-1, Saturday afternoon at Tiger Park.

LSU picked up the run-rule win after a six-run fourth. 

The home Tigers struck first with a trio of runs in the second. Ali Newland hammered a two-run homer to center before a bases loaded walk made the LSU lead 3-0. 

Alex Honnold connected on her ninth dinger of the season to cut the deficit to 3-1 in the third. It marked the third home run in SEC play for the centerfielder from West Des Moines, Iowa.

Honnold led the Tigers Saturday, going 2-for-3 at the plate. Maddie Gallagher also notched a pair of hits (2-for-2).  

LSU then secured the weekend series (2-1) with a crooked number in the fourth.

McKenzie Redoutey touched home on a wild pitch before a RBI single from Danieca Coffey increased the advantage to 5-1. 

Karli Petty notched a two-run double down the left field line before a two-run shot from Georgia Clark pushed the margin to 9-1. 

Starter Jordan Weber let up three runs on two hits for the loss. Taylor Pannell (three runs on four hits with two strikeouts) and Laurin Krings (three runs on four hits with a strikeout) saw relief action Saturday. 

NOTES

  • Alex Honnold and Maddie Gallagher each had two hits in the contest.
  • Alex Honnold posted her ninth home run of the season (third in SEC play) Saturday. 
  • Maddie Gallagher extended her hitting streak to five games while Alex Honnold pushed her reached base streak to five. 
  • Saturday marked Alex Honnold’s 13th multi-hit game of the season. 
  • Maddie Gallagher posted her fourth multi-hit game in 2023 (third two-hit game of the season). 

UP NEXT

  • Mizzou next returns to Columbia, Missouri, for an extended nine-game homestand. Missouri hosts Lindenwood on Wednesday, April 12 in midweek action before a weekend series with Ole Miss April 15-17.
