Jack Jones named GLVC Pitcher of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury right-hander Jack Jones was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 20-26.

Jones went 1-0 with a 0.00 earned run average in his lone start last week. The Tulsa, Oklahoma native got the win on Sunday at Missouri S&T, going six innings and allowing just two hits and one unearned run with two walks and seven strikeouts. The Panthers were winners, 7-2, over the Miners in the second game of the doubleheader on Sunday. Jones has not allowed an earned run in his last two games and 12.2 innings.

The conference’s weekly award is the first of Jones’ career, and he is the first Drury hurler to win Pitcher of the Week honors from the league since Tom Tewes won the award on Feb. 10, 2020. Panthers infielder Brooks Sunny was the GLVC Player of the Week earlier this season on Feb. 13.

Drury is 17-11, 8-4 in the GLVC, and is back at home this weekend for a four-game series against Southwest Baptist at US Baseball Park in Ozark. The two teams will play on Friday at 5 pm, Saturday with a doubleheader at noon, and conclude the series on Sunday at noon.
