OZARK, Mo.— Drury swept a doubleheader from William Jewell on Sunday, winning game one 12-5 and the second game 7-1 at US Baseball Park in Ozark.
The Panthers took three of the four games in the series with the Cardinals and raised their record to 13-11 and 4-4 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. William Jewell dropped to 14-7 and 5-3 in the GLVC.
William Jewell jumped in front with three runs in the opening frame of game one, but Drury got on the board with a run in the bottom half of the inning. After scoring a run in the third, the Panthers took their first lead in the fourth inning. Connor Bain homered to tie the game, then Kellen Williamson put Drury in front with a single.
Drury opened up the lead with eight runs in the fifth, highlighted by a three-run double by Wes Collins and a two-run extra-base hit by Cooper Munro.
Cade Waits (3-2) picked up the win for the Panthers, while Jake MacDonald (0-3) took the loss for William Jewell.
Drury completed the sweep with a 7-1 win in game two. The Panthers built a lead early with three runs in the second inning as they got RBI hits from Kaden Byrne, Max Elmer, and Briar Stinson. Drury added a run in the third and another in the fourth. Drury tacked on two more runs in the sixth, scoring on a bases-loaded hit-batter and a sacrifice fly by Tyler Bastunas.
Elmer and Williamson both had two RBI’s, and Cooper Munro finished the game going 2 for 3.
Jack Jones (2-1) got the win for Drury going 6.2 innings, allowing just three hits and no runs with three walks and six strikeouts. Jackson Bodinson (2-1) took the loss for the Cardinals.
The Panthers are back on the field on Friday when they open a four-game series with a 2 pm game at Missouri S&T.
