8th ranked Illinois Springfield pulls away from Panthers

SPRINGFIELD, Ill.— Eighth-ranked Illinois Springfield used a four-run fourth inning to pull away from Drury and take a 9-1 win on Saturday in Springfield, Illinois.
 
The Prairie Stars improved to 12-4 and 2-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Panthers dropped to 9-9 and 0-2 in the league.
 
Leading 1-0 going into the fourth, Illinois Springfield scored four times in the frame. Ivan Dahlberg hit a two-run home run to give the Prairie Stars a 3-0 lead. Johnny Colombo drove in a run with a double; then Asher Bradd added another run in the frame with a ground ball.
 
Drury got on the board in the eighth when Briar Stinson scored on an error.
 
Four Illinois Springfield pitchers held the Panthers to four hits. Adam Brouwer (2-0) got the win, while Cade Waits (2-1) took the loss.
 
The two teams continue their four-game series with a doubleheader starting at noon in Springfield, Illinois.
