Panthers open NCAA-II Swimming & Diving Championships on Tuesday in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.— The NCAA-II Swimming & Diving National Championships start Tuesday night with the 800 Free Relay, then full days of preliminaries and finals start Wednesday at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Fresh off a Great Lakes Valley Conference championship, the Drury men’s team enters the national meet ranked number two in NCAA-II. The Panthers had 15 national qualifiers in swimming and one in diving. The total is the largest contingent in the event. Nathan Bighetti qualified in three events, the 100 Back, 100 Fly, and 200 Back. Davi Mourao is also in three events, the 100 Breast, 200 Breast, and 200 Individual Medley.

The Drury women’s squad had 10 swimmers selected and is ranked fourth nationally. Sophomore Claire Conover was the GLVC Women’s Swimmer of the Year at the league championship meet in February and will compete in four events individual events – the 100 Breast, 200 Breast, 200 IM, and 400 IM.

DU head coach Brian Reynolds is in his 40th year leading the Drury swim program. He has been at the helm for 33 of Drury’s 35 national championships in the sport. The Panthers are seeking their first national title since 2014. Last year, the Drury men’s squad was the national runner-up for the second straight year, while the women’s team finished fourth.

Wednesday’s schedule starts at 11 am (Central) with the preliminary heats of the 200 Individual Medley.
