Drury opens NCAA-II Championships with 2nd place finish in women’s 800 Free Relay

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.— The Drury women’s 800 Free Relay team finished as the national runner-up on the first night of competition at the NCAA-II Swimming & Diving National Championships at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana, on Tuesday. The Drury men’s team came in sixth.
 
The 800 Free Relay was the only event on the first night of competition at the national championship meet.
 
The Drury women’s squad started their national championship appearance by finishing second behind Nova Southeastern. Ellie Walker, Josie Bushell, Ashlyn Moore, and Mellie Wijk posted a time of 7:14.86, just behind Nova Southeastern’s meet-record time of 7:13.65. West Chester was third in the 800 Free Relay with a time of 7:17.11. 
 
The Drury men’s 800 Free Relay team was sixth as Anisse Djaballah, Vladislav Terziev, Joao Nogueira, and Dominik Karacic combined for a time of 6:28.40. McKendree won the event with a time of 6:22.46. Tampa finished second (6:22.52), and Grand Valley State was third (6:24.18).
 
The first full day of competition starts Wednesday at 9 am (Central) with the preliminary heats of the women’s 200 Individual Medley.
