Panthers fall short in Sunday’s doubleheader

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury was defeated in both games of their Sunday doubleheader at Thompson Field in Springfield. The Panthers fell short in game one 7-3 to Central Oklahoma. Game two saw Drury take on Augustana, where they were defeated with a score of 5-2. The Panthers move to (10-12) on the season.
 
Game one saw Central Oklahoma’s bats start hot out of the gate, slapping multiple hits in the first inning. The Bronchos were able to grab a commanding lead thanks to Terin Ritz’s grand slam. The blast opened a five-run lead that made it a 5-0 ballgame after one inning.
 
Drury fought back in the second, with Camryn BeDell scoring Lauren Beier on a single up the middle. Meagan Mullaney followed with a single of her own, scoring Kailyne Luna and Lindsay Henson to make it a 5-3 ballgame after three.
 
Central Oklahoma struck again in the fourth inning, after Shayleigh Odom sent one over the wall to make it a 6-3 game. The Bronchos added another run in the seventh to extend their lead to four runs. Central Oklahoma held the lead and closed out the rest of the game to win 7-3.
 
Bailee Nixon (2-1), took the loss for the Panthers in game one.
 
The Panthers took the field to take on Augustana In game two. Drury once again found trouble in the first inning, allowing two runs in the frame. The Panthers would bounce back, scoring two runs of their own in the bottom of the first. Lauren Beier drove in both runs with a double to center field.
 
The score remained 2-2 until the fifth inning, when Augustana was able to break the game open, scoring three runs to make it a 5-2 ballgame.
 
The Panthers would be held scoreless for the remainder of the game. Lauren Beier and Sophia Luetticke were the only Panthers to tally hits in the contest. Kristina Bettis (6-6) took the loss for the Panthers, tossing five innings and striking out seven in the game.
 
Drury returns to Thompson Field on March 15th to host Oklahoma Baptist for a doubleheader. First pitch is at 12 pm with the second game starting immediately after.
