Drury blanks Winona State

OZARK, Mo.— Drury pitcher Cody Bahl fired a four-hit shutout as the Panthers blanked Winona State 10-0 in eight innings on Friday at US Baseball Park in Ozark.

Drury improved to 6-2, while the Warriors fell in their season opener.

Bahl worked a complete game limiting Winona State to four hits and two walks while striking out four. The Lee’s Summit native improved to 3-0.

“Cody got a lot of weak contact on the ground early in counts,” said Drury head coach Scott Nasby. “It was a fairly tough day to hit in terms of putting the ball in the air and the defense did a good job today. If you can keep low counts in certain innings, it allows you to get deep into games.”

The Panthers struck early with two runs in the first inning, scoring on an RBI-double by Briar Stinson, who would then score on a single by Cooper Munro. Munro finished the game with three runs batted in as he drove in another run with a ground ball, and added a sacrifice fly. He went 2 for 3 at the plate with a run scored.

Drury ended the game in the eighth inning as Luc Fuller drove in a run with a pinch-hit single that gave the Panthers a 10-0 run-rule win.

DU had 10 hits in the game from nine different batters.

Cameron Kramer (0-1) took the loss for Winona State.

The series continues on Saturday with a doubleheader that starts at noon at US Baseball Park.
