Tigers Duo Set to Participate in USA Volleyball Women’s National Team Open Tryouts

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri volleyball program will send two student-athletes to the 2023 USA Women’s National Team Open Tryouts this week. Right side hitter Jordan Iliff and libero Maya Sands will represent the Tigers at the tryout Feb. 24-26 at the Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Jordan Iliff was third on Missouri in her sophomore season this past fall with 227 kills (2.39 kills per set), swinging at a .214 clip. Iliff, a St. Louis, Missouri, native, started in 20 matches in 2022 and appeared in 25. She also totaled 251.0 points (2.64 points per set) this past season.

In SEC play, Iliff notched 148 kills (2.39 kills per set).

She finished in double-digits for kills on 11 occasions in 2022 including a career-best 18 rally stoppers on a .457 clip against LSU on Nov. 12. Iliff wrapped the campaign with consecutive 13-kill outings at Mississippi State Nov. 25-26.

Maya Sands most recently transferred to Mizzou after spending her freshman campaign at UNLV in 2022 under the instruction of Missouri Head Coach Dawn Sullivan.

Sands, a Rock Falls, Illinois, native, helped the Rebels capture the 2022 Mountain West Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

She ranked third in the league with 3.68 digs per set (412 digs) and played in all 31 matches for UNLV. Sands registered double-digit digs on 25 occasions including a career-best 22 digs against Utah State on Oct. 13.

Sands paced the Rebels with 30 aces (0.27 aces/set). She compiled 10 assists and 21 digs for her first career double-double against New Mexico on Oct. 6.

Sands was named Mountain West Player of the Week three times in 2022.

ABOUT THE WNT OPEN PROGRAM

The WNT Open Program is used for consideration for selection to both our Women’s National Team and our Women’s Collegiate National Team. These programs allow our Women’s National Team staff to observe the highest potential athletes with and against one another. In 2023, members of our Women’s National Team will compete in the following events: Volleyball Nations League, Paris Olympic Qualifier, Pan American Cup, NORCECA Continental Championship, and potentially Pan American Games. Athletes born in 2003 or younger may also be in consideration for selection to our U21 Women’s National Team that will compete in the 2023 FIVB U21 World Championship.

The 2023 U.S. Women’s Collegiate National Team will train in Anaheim alongside the U.S. Women’s National Team athletes and staff. This program is used for consideration for selection to our Women’s National Team and related events.
