PITTSBURG, Kan. – Drury finished the Pitt Classic with a 2-2 record as they split two games on Sunday in Pittsburg, Kansas.
The Panthers won their first game with a 5-2 victory over Wayne State (Neb.). Drury scored four runs in the first inning and added a run in the fifth to take a three-run lead. Seven players in the Panthers line-up had at least one hit. Bailee Nixon (1-0) went 4.1 innings and got the win, while Karsyn Smith pitched 2.1 scoreless innings in relief to earn her first save. Sami Felt (0-2) took the loss for the Wildcats.
Pittsburg State had 11 hits and belted three home runs in an 11-2 win over the Panthers in Drury’s second game on Sunday. The Gorillas scored a run in the first, three in the third, and blew the game open with a five-run fourth inning.
Paxtyn Hayes hit a home run and Kianna Pellegrino went deep twice for Pitt State.
Kristina Bettis (2-5) took the loss, while Lilli Weir (3-3) picked up the win.
Drury returns to action Feb. 24-25 when they host the Branson Bash tournament at the Ballparks of America complex in Branson, Missouri.
