Panthers split first two games of Pitt State Classic

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Drury split two games on Saturday in the Pitt State Classic in Pittsburg, Kansas. The Panthers won their first game, 16-2, over Wayne State (Neb.), then fell in six innings to the host Gorillas, 10-2.
 
Drury scored 16 runs on 15 hits and took advantage of six Wayne State errors in a 16-2 win in five innings in their first game on Saturday. Rylee Kolb led off the game with a home run for the Panthers and finished the game going 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
 
The Panthers scored eight runs in the second inning off of seven hits and three Wayne State errors. They added five more runs in the third and tacked on their 16th run of the game in the fifth.
 
Catcher Gracie Thomas was 2 for 4 with a double and four RBI’s, and Cheyenne Mohler belted a home run in the win.
 
Kristina Bettis (2-4) got the win for Drury.
 
Pittsburg State belted three home runs in the first two innings in Drury’s second game as the Panthers fell 8-0 behind and fell 10-2 in six innings. The Panthers got on the board in the top of the third when Reagan Hight drove in two runs with a single that drew Drury within six, 8-2.
 
The Gorillas added a run in the fourth and one more in the sixth to close out the game.
 
Pittsburg State first baseman Paxtyn Hayes went 3 for 3 in the game with two home runs, a double, six RBI’s, and three runs scored. Taylor Lambert was 3 for 4 and scored twice.
 
Kailyn Luna and Sophia Luetticke both went 2 for 3 for the Panthers.
 
Lauren Beier (1-3) took the loss for Drury, while Hannah Harrison (3-2) got the win in relief for Pittsburg State.
 
The Pitt State Classic continues on Sunday. The Panthers take on Wayne State at noon, then Pittsburg State at 2 pm.
