Keeping Track of the Bears

  • The Bears’ participation in the Washburn Multi is their first in two years. MSU kicked off its 2021 campaign in Topeka and will return to the annual meet this year for the first time since.

  • MSU has 34 entries set to compete in this weekend’s meet at the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility.

  • The Bears will compete in one relay at the multi, with one team entered in the distance medley.

  • The largest number of Bears will compete in the 60-meter dash with Kate Anderson, Hayden Gray, O’Shayla Muldrow, Charity Obazughanmwen, Felicity Watkins, Nakaja Weaver and Calandra Henry representing MSU in the event.

  • Track and field members were recognized for their academic achievements two weeks ago, as 33 athletes made the MSU Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for their efforts during the fall semester.

  • MSU is coming off the Pittsburg State Invitational where several Bears earned lifetime bests. Prior to that, MSU competed at the annual DeLoss Dodds Invitational, where six athletes earned individual event titles on January 21.

  • Brooke Jenkins earned Missouri Valley Conference honors on January 25 after her performance at the DeLoss Dodds Invitational where she finished first in the long jump. She was named the MVC’s female field athlete of the week following her jump of 5.60 meters which saw her to the top of the podium.

  • Edna Dar earned a second-place finish last weekend in the one-mile run. Among a competitive field of 44 athletes, her time of 4:58.43 was a season best, as well as just seven seconds shy of a lifetime best for the Toronto, Ontario, native.

  • Calandra Henry is off to a hot start for the Bears this season, clocking another lifetime best in the 60-meter dash last weekend. Her time of 7.49 seconds in finals of the event earned her a third-place finish. Her time in the preliminary heat was also a personal best, clocking in at 7.50.

  • The Bears’ indoor schedule features six regular season meets before the conference indoor championships on Feb. 26-27. MSU competes in four meets hosted by Pittsburg State as well as one at Kansas State and Arkansas.

  • Head coach Jordan Fife is in his fifth year as head coach and ninth overall with the program after a four-year stint as an assistant. Fife also took over the head coaching duties of the cross country team in 2014.
