COLUMBIA, Mo.- The Missouri men’s basketball team used long-distance shooting yet again to overwhelm visiting LSU, 87-77, in front of 12,769 fans inside Mizzou Arena Wednesday night. With the win, MU claims its third-straight victory and improves to 17-5 overall and 5-4 in SEC play, while LSU drops to 12-10 and 1-8 versus league foes.
The Tigers have hit a program-record 43 baskets from behind the arc over the past three contests, converting 13 tonight to race past LSU. Mizzou also recorded a season-high of 26 assists in the winning effort, while committing just 10 turnovers.
Four Tigers scored in double figures to lead Mizzou to their victory. Senior Kobe Brown once again led the team with 26 points – making 10-of-11 field goals and 5-of-6 from 3-point range. The senior also added eight rebounds, five assists, two steals and one assist in the winning effort.
Senior Noah Carter and graduate student DeAndre Gholston both added 14 points, while senior Isiaih Mosley connected for 12 more points.
Mizzou never trailed in the game and quickly jumped out to an 8-0 lead thanks to deep shots from Brown and Carter, forcing LSU into its first timeout just 2:14 into the game.
Carter led the Tigers attack during the first 10 minutes, securing double figures after just 9:24 of play. On the backside of the opening stanza, Brown caught fire, leading all scorers with 17 while tacking on a career-high five 3-pointers in the first half. Overall, Mizzou made nine triples in the first 11 minutes of action and finished with 11 in the first half in building a 13-point lead at the intermission, 48-35.
A halftime advantage would not be relinquished as Mizzou’s defense kept LSU from ever pulling within single digits in the second stanza, earning the 87-77 victory.
Missouri shot 55.9 percent against LSU with a 13-of-27 clip from the 3-point range. MU also kept its opponents to 40.9 percent from the field with an 11-of-33 mark from the 3-point range.
