Panthers picked 3rd in GLVC preseason coaches’ poll

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury received a first-place vote and was third in the Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason baseball coaches’ poll released by the GLVC on Monday.

The Panthers received 114 points in the poll, the third-most in the poll, while Illinois Springfield received 10 first-place votes and 142 points. Quincy picked up the other two votes for first and was picked second, and Maryville, with 112 points, was behind Drury in fourth.

The GLVC will compete as a single, one-division conference playing an unbalanced schedule with 13 teams. Last year, the Panthers won the GLVC’s Green Division, going 21-7 in the league play and 38-16 overall. Drury head coach Scott Nasby was named the league’s Coach of the Year last season, and his 2023 team returns 26 lettermen, two starting position players, and nine pitchers that made nine or more appearances.

The Panthers open the 2023 season Feb. 11-12 in Memphis, Tennessee, with a three-game series at Christian Brothers. Drury’s first home series is Feb. 17-19 against Rockhurst at US Baseball Park in Ozark.
