Drury rallies past Davenport

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.– Drury rallied to upend Davenport 30-20 in a Great Lakes Valley Conference dual on Wednesday at Weiser Gym in Springfield.
 
Davenport won four straight match-ups, including a win at 141 pounds, as Peter Kuster, ranked third nationally in his weight class, was forced out on a medical forfeit.
 
Trailing 20-6, Drury closed out the dual winning the final five matches with two wins by Fall, a Technical Fall, and a Major Decision.
 
Colby Allen helped turn the tide with a 6-3 win at 165 pounds over Jahleel Rollins. Then Owian Ulven picked up a 12-2 Major Decision over Travis Marsh in the 174-class. At 184 pounds, Logan Zimmermann pinned Ethan Ramsey in 2:32, and Drury took the lead in the 197-pound match as BK Seago earned a win by Technical Fall, 18-3, over Crue Cooper. Thomas Massengale then secured the win for Drury with a win by Fall at 3:55 over Zachary Painter.
 
“It’s always good to have your upper-weight guys come through for you big,” said Drury head coach James Reynolds. “We had a perfect storm of events early on that put us in that position. I’m thankful, though, that we were able to compete and thankful for those guys that stepped forward today. We’ll grow, move forward, and get healthy.”
 
Next up for the Panthers is a trip to William Jewell for a 1 pm conference dual in Liberty, Missouri.
