Reese Schaaf’s double-double lifts Drury past Illinois Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Freshman Reese Schaaf had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds to lead Drury as the Lady Panthers won their 11^th straight game with an 82-63 win at Illinois Springfield on Saturday.
 
Drury, ranked tied for second in NCAA-II, improved to 15-1 and 8-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Prairie Stars fell to 1-15 and 1-7 in the GLVC.
 
Drury led by 10, 36-26, then outscored Illinois Springfield 30-18 in the third quarter to open up the lead.
 
Schaaf scored 16 points, matching a career high for the second straight game, and this time added 11 rebounds. The El Dorado Springs product had 16 points and seven rebounds on Thursday at Lewis.  
 
“She’s just a winner,” said Drury head coach Amy Eagan regarding Schaaf. “She does whatever she can on every possession to make things happen. She gets her hands on a lot of rebounds. If she’s not pulling them down, she’s tipping them to a teammate. It’s something we noticed on film watching the Lewis game from Thursday night – she doesn’t give up on a play.”
 
Alana Findley scored 12 points and became the 21^st player in Drury women’s basketball history to top 1,000 career points. She entered the game needing just three points to reach the milestone. Terrion Moore and Kaylee DaMitz-Holt both added 10 points for the Lady Panthers.
 
Brianna Zaijcek had 22 points, while Liz Uhl added 21 to lead Illinois Springfield.
 
“I thought our third quarter was definitely our best quarter today,” added Eagan. “We played with more energy, we talked really well and executed well. That carried us through the day.”
 
The Lady Panthers went 12 for 18 from the field in that third period and hit 2 of their 4 three-point attempts in the period.
 
Drury concludes their road trip on Monday when they take on Quincy at 7:30 pm in Quincy, Illinois.
