Lady Panthers win 10th straight with road win at Lewis

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Drury won their 10th straight game as they picked up an 82-75 win at Lewis on Thursday night in Romeoville, Illinois.

The Lady Panthers, ranked second nationally, improved to 14-1 and 7-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lewis had their seven-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 9-6 and 5-2 in the GLVC.

The Flyers had a 36-35 halftime lead over Drury, marking only the second time the Lady Panthers trailed at the intermission this season. The two teams traded leads until Drury went on an 11-2 run late in the third quarter, giving the Lady Panthers a 56-49 lead going into the fourth period.

Drury held off Lewis down the stretch as the Flyers never got within four points of the lead in the final quarter.

“I didn’t think we played real well tonight,” said Drury head coach Amy Eagan. “It didn’t look like we had a lot of energy on the defensive side of things. (Lewis) is a tough place to play, though, and I’m proud of our kids. I thought, in the last five minutes, we really controlled the game and we’ve got kids that just wouldn’t let us lose.”

Lady Panthers guard Terrion Moore scored a career-high 22 points going 8 for 13 from the field and 3 for 3 from the three-point line. Reese Shaaf came off the bench to score a season-high 16 points, and she grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

“Reese did so many things for us today, whether it was scoring, rebounding and defending,” added Eagan. “I think she’s starting to settle in at this level.”

Kaylee DaMitz-Holt added 15 points going 11 for 12 from the foul line.

Kathryn Schmidt led Lewis with 17 points and six rebounds, while Jenna Bedali put in 16 points.

Drury shot 41 percent in the game, going 26 for 64 from the field, and hit 8 of their 18 three-point attempts. The Lady Panthers sank 22 of their 29 free throws. Lewis shot 51 percent, hitting 26 of 51 shots but went just 4 for 14 from three-point range. Drury also forced 21 turnovers while only committing 13.

Drury’s road trip continues on Saturday as the Lady Panthers travel to Illinois Springfield. Tipoff is at 1 pm.
