Panthers start road stint at Lewis
The Drury Panthers start a three-game, six-day road trip on Thursday at Lewis.

Drury is 5-9 and 1-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Panthers won back-to-back games on Dec. 31 and Jan. 5 with wins over St. Mary and McKendree but are coming off a loss in their last game, 89-76, at home to Indianapolis.

Lewis is 5-8 and is also 1-5 in the GLVC. The Flyers are also coming off a loss having fallen 77-65 at Southwest Baptist on Saturday. While Lewis has lost five of their last six games, they remain tough at home, sporting a 4-1 record in Neil Carey Arena.

Drury guard Logan Applegate has gone off in recent games averaging 27.5 points in two games last week. The freshman from Nevada went 9 for 13 from three-point range last week and shot 60 percent from the field overall hitting 18 of his 30 attempts. Applegate also went 10 for 13 at the free throw line for the week. He scored a season-high 31 points against McKendree on Thursday, then had 24 against Indianapolis on Saturday.

Lewis is led by Beau Frericks, who is averaging 14.7 points. The junior from Cary Grove, Illinois, is shooting .413 from three-point range, going 26 for 63 behind the arc. He is a 90 percent free throw shooter having hit 27 out of 30 tries.

After Thursday’s game, Drury plays the second of three road games at Illinois Springfield on Saturday. Tipoff is at 3 pm.
