Panthers finish fifth at GLVC Championships

ELSAH, Ill.— The Drury men’s cross country team posted a fifth-place finish at the Great Lakes Valley Conference championship race on Saturday in Elsah, Illinois.
 
Illinois Springfield won the GLVC title with 35 points edging Lewis by a single point. Missouri S&T was third with 76 points and Southwest Baptist was fourth with 127. The Panthers had 136 points and their fifth-place finish was their third-best mark in the conference championship since 2010.
 
Colby Garner was 17th overall among 146 runners and finished with a time of 25:50.30 in the eight-kilometer race. Ethan Haynes came in 22nd (25:53.90), then three Panthers were bunched together in spots 31-32-34. Gabe Bauer was 31st (26:14.50), William Kershaw was right behind him in 32nd (26:17.70), and Cole Sutton’s time of 26:25.90 had him in 34th.
 
Garner, a sophomore from Springfield-Kickapoo, earned a spot on the All-GLVC Team with his 17th-place finish.
 
Wyatt McIntyre of Illinois Springfield won the individual league title taking the championship with a time of 24:50.30.
 
Drury competes again on Nov. 19 at the NCAA-II Midwest Regional Championships in Kenosha, Wisc.
