DU teams sweep Drury Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The Drury men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams picked up victories in a sweep of the Drury Invitational at the Breech Pool on Saturday. The DU women’s team, ranked 7th in the NCAA-II, defeated William Jewell 1,351-895. The 3rd ranked Drury men’s squad finished with 1,385.5 points to out-distance 15th ranked Missouri S&T’s total of 822.5 and William Jewell’s score of 734.
 
Men’s Highlights

  • Drury opened with a win Saturday morning in the 200 Medley Relay. Nathan Bighetti, Davi Mourao, Oskar Sawicki, and Kham Glass combined for a time of 1:29.58
  • Alejandro Villarejo picked up a win in the 400 IM with a time of 4:03.88, and he finished first in the 200 Fly (1:49.60)
  • Three Panthers were within a fraction of a second from one another in the 100 Fly. Cameron Craig won with a time of 48.18, with teammates Dominik Karacic (48.26) and Oskar Sawicki (48.46) right behind
  • Davi Mourao took the 100 Breast posting a time of 56.07 and he also won the 200 Breast (2:01.49)
  • Nathan Bighetti won the 100 Back (48.96) and took first in the 200 Back (1:46.53)
  • The Panthers earned another relay win in the 800 Free Relay. Cameron Craig, Dominik Karacic, Davi Mourao, and Anisse Djaballah teamed up to finish the event in 6:39.12
  • Djaballah returned to win in the 1000 Free (9:34.59)
  • Cameron Craig swam the 100 Free in 44.50 to finish first
  • Drury finished the meet with a win in the 400 Free Relay as Craig, Glass, Karacic, and Bighetti swam a winning time of 3:02.59

 
Women’s Highlights

  • Drury opened Saturday with a win in the 200 Medley Relay. Lexie Waller, Claire Conover, Kasia Rogowska, and Gabie Fouchi combined for a time of 1:45.28
  • Luisa Machado won the 400 IM with a time of 4:28.41, edging teammate Mellie Wijk (4:29.27)
  • Wijk returned to win the 100 Fly posting a time of 55.50
  • Josie Bushell took first place in the 200 Free (1:52.60)
  • Claire Conover cruised to a win in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:03.74, and she won the 200 Breast (2:17.28)
  • Lexie Waller gave the Panthers a first-place finish in the 100 Back (56.75), and she won the 200 Back with a time of 2:00.54
  • The Panthers 800 Free Relay team earned a win as Wijk, Ellie Walker, Conover, and Bushnell won by more than 19 seconds with a time of 7:34.71
  • Morgan Gullette won the 1000 Free with a time of 10:40.63 and edged teammate Aisling Allen (10:41.35) for the win
  • Ashlyn Moore took the 100 Free (51.84), getting to the wall just in ahead of teammate Josie Bushell (51.99)
  • Aurora Duncan won the 200 Fly posting a time of 2:03.54
  • Drury closed the meet and completed a sweep of first-place finishes in all 18 events with a win in the 400 Free Relay. Rogowska, Moore, Walker, and Bushell won with a time of 3:27.39

 
Both Drury teams compete again in the SMU Invitational, Nov. 17-19 in Dallas, Texas.
