Both DU teams lead after first day of Drury Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The Drury women’s and men’s teams are in the lead after the first day of competition at the Drury Invitational on Friday. The Panthers women’s squad won all five events on Friday and is in front of William Jewell 433-235. The DU men’s squad also won all five of Friday’s events and leads the three-team competition with 413 points. Missouri S&T is in second with 239 points and William Jewell is in third with 193.
 
Women’s Highlights

  • The Panthers started the meet with a win in the 200 Free Relay. Kasia Rogowska, Josie Bushell, Ashlyn Moore, and Gabie Fouchi won with a time of 1:33.14
  • Morgan Gullette took the 500 Free with a time of 5:08.51
  • Mellie Wijk won the 200 IM getting to the wall in 2:03.67
  • Rogowska picked up a victory in the 50 Free (23.25)
  • Drury concluded Friday with a win in the 400 Medley Relay as Lexie Waller, Claire Conover, Wijk, and Bushell combined for a time of 3:48.69

 
Men’s Highlights

  • Drury started with a win in the 200 Free Relay as Cameron Craig, Kham Glass, Dominik Karacic, and Oskar Sawicki combined for a winning time of 1:21.02
  • Joao Nogueira swam a 4:32.46 and won the 500 Free
  • Alejandro Villarejo won the 200 IM with a time of 1:51.05, edging teammate Andrew Rodriguez, who was second (1:51.19)
  • Kham Glass posted a 20.26 to win the 50 Free
  • The Panthers closed Friday’s session with a win in the 400 Medley Relay. Nathan Bighetti, Davi Mourao, Karacic, and Glass won with a time of 3:19.81

 
Competition continues on Saturday as the Drury Invitational resumes at 9 am in the Breech Pool.
