Soccer Falls, 2-0, at No. 14 South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of Missouri soccer team was unable to come away with a victory at No. 14 South Carolina Thursday, Oct. 27, falling 2-0. With the loss, the Tigers are eliminated from postseason play and will await the announcement of the Southeastern Conference honors.

Missouri’s (5-8-4) Bella Hollenbach was put to the test early, as the redshirt freshman made a quick save in the second minute of the contest. The Tigers did not back down from South Carolina (11-3-4), with back-and-forth action leaving the game at 0-0 at halftime. At the break, South Carolina led Missouri in shots (7-5) and corners (5-0), with both teams having three shots on goal.

Early in the second half, South Carolina took the lead with a goal in the 50th minute. Just four minutes later the Gamecocks would make it 2-0. The Tigers responded with pressure as sophomore Milena Fischer nearly scored off a header, but USC’s keeper was able to get her hands on it. Sophomore Leah Selm had a pair of opportunities in the contest as well, but Missouri was unable to get on the board. 

GAME NOTES

• Mizzou is now 3-9-0 all-time against South Carolina.
• Selm led Mizzou with two shots, and no Tiger had more than one shot on goal.
• Hollenbach, Selm, Grace Pettet, Rachel Kutella,  and Megan Oduyoye all went the distance, playing all 90 minutes.
