Cross Country Set For SEC Championships

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri Cross Country will compete in the SEC Cross Country Championships on Friday in Oxford, Miss. The event will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

The women will run the 6k title race at 10:08 a.m. with the men’s team to follow in the 8k at 10:50 a.m.

Missouri enters the championships after a four-race regular season that concluded with the Weis-Crockett Inviational on Oct. 15.

Junior Jenna Schwartz led the Tiger women to the finish for the first time this year in the regular-season. Junior Isabelle Christiansen has headlined the Tigers during the current campaign, pacing the team in each of the other three competitions and narrowly finishing second to Schwartz the last time out.

On the men’s side, senior Marquette Hanson will look to continue leading the Tigers. Hanson, who has led the team in each of his three entrants capped off his regular season with a 20th-place finish Weiss-Crockett Invitational.

Christiansen had an impressive title race a season ago as she posted a time of 21:21:5, which was good for a 30th-place finish. Alongside Christiansen, Allison Newman earned All-SEC Freshman Honors with a 70th-place result.

The men are looking to post strong back-to-back team performances after claiming third in 2022. Hanson and William Sinclair paced the Missouri pack crossing the line ninth and 13th, respectively in the race that was held on the Tigers’ home course.

The Arkansas Razorbacks have claimed the men’s and women’s conference crown each of the last two years.

Friday will be the fourth time that the championships will be held in Oxford, Miss., with prior hosting years in 1985, 1996 and 2009.

The championship award ceremony will follow the men’s race and is estimated to start at noon.
