Panthers earn a 1-1 draw at McKendree

LEBANON, Ill. – After giving up an early goal, Drury scored midway through the first half and tied McKendree 1-1 on Sunday in Lebanon, Illinois.
 
The draw moved the Panthers record to 6-2-6 and 4-1-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Bearcats went to 5-4-5 and 3-3-4 in the league.
 
McKendree scored six minutes into the game as Stephen Stuebbe notched his seventh goal of the year with an assist from Dayton Strattman. The Panthers answered in the 23rd minute as John Clout scored his first goal of the year and Jacob Schmidt added the assist.
 
Both teams went scoreless in the second half, but Drury threatened down the stretch. Kaelan Debbage fired a shot that hit a post in the 74th minute, and the Panthers had two corner kicks in the final seven minutes of regulation, but the Bearcats held off the Panthers to forge the tie.
 
McKendree had a 9-8 advantage in shots and Drury goalkeeper Tyler Frolick made three saves in the draw, while Bearcats goalie Matt King had one save.
 
The Panthers return home to play Illinois Springfield on Friday at 7:30 pm at Harrison Stadium / Curry Sports Complex.
