Drury triathlon finishes second in NCAA-II West Regional

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— The Drury women’s triathlon team finished second among five teams at the NCAA-II West Regional championship in Stockton, Missouri on Saturday. Colorado Mesa had three of the top four finishers in the event to win the regional.
 
Panthers senior Jayme Sue Vermaas led Drury coming in third with a time of 1:04:26. The native of South Africa had a 10:11 in the half-mile swim, completed her 12-mile bicycle leg in 32:41, and finished with a 19:49 time in the five-kilometer run.
 
Drury’s Mayumi Shinozuka came in ninth (1:07:39), and Zoe Van Dijk was 11th (1:08:40) to round out the top three Panthers finishers.
 
Megan Buchanan from Colorado Mesa won the event with a time of 1:03:30, while her teammate, Shannon Feran, was second (1:04:22).
 
Drury advances to the NCAA National Championship race on Nov. 12 in Tempe, Arizona.
