Drury and Missouri S&T get first half goals in 1-1 tie

ROLLA, Mo.– Drury and Missouri S&T both had goals in the first half and ended their match in a 1-1 tie on Sunday in Rolla. The Panthers went to 5-1-4 and 2-1-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Miners moved their record to 1-5-4 and 1-4-2 in the league.
 
The Panthers struck in the game’s eighth minute as Tara Simon, last year’s Freshman of the Year in the GLVC, scored her third goal of the year to give Drury a 1-0 lead.
 
Missouri S&T tied the game with just seven seconds left in the first half. Paige Van Daele scored her first goal of the year, beating the Drury defense and the first half clock with an assist from Lexi Fredrick.
 
The Panthers had a 15-9 advantage in shots and Drury goalkeeper Kaitlin Knetzke had two saves while Miners keeper Viktoria Johnson was credited with four stops.
 
Drury returns home for their next match when they host Maryville on Friday at 5 pm in Harrison Stadium and the Curry Sports Complex.
