Drury battles past Bearcats for 2-1 win in Bolivar

BOLIVAR, Mo. – Drury battled past Southwest Baptist for a 2-1 road win on Friday night in Bolivar, Missouri. The Panthers raised their record to 4-1-3 and 2-0-2 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, while the Bearcats dropped to 0-7-1 and 0-4 in the GLVC.
 
Southwest Baptist got on the board first, scoring in the seventh minute. In a scramble in the front of the Drury net, Ignacio Masalli kicked the ball from Panthers goalkeeper Tyler Frolik and into the net for his second goal of the year.
 
Drury evened the game late in the first half when Jung So blasted a shot from 35 yards out in the 43rd minute for his second score of the year. The Panthers took the lead in the 49th minute as Kaelan Debbage found the net on a free kick from 25 yards away. It was Debbage’s GLVC-leading sixth goal of the season and his second game-winner.
 
Drury limited Southwest Baptist to four shots in the second half and just two on goal. Both Bearcats shots on goal came in a final push in the 89th minute and the Panthers were credited with a pair of team saves as they held off SBU for the road win.
 
Drury returns home on Sunday when they Rockhurst at 2:30 pm at Harrison Stadium / Curry Sports Complex.
