Salma Lewis’ 20 kills helps Drury to road win at William Jewell

LIBERTY, Mo. – The Drury Panthers completed their first weekend in Great Lakes Valley Conference play with a 2-0 record as they defeated William Jewell 3-1 in Liberty, Missouri, on Saturday.
 
Drury improved to 7-6 overall, 2-0 in the league, and their victory was their third straight win. The Cardinals dropped to 7-7 and 0-2 in the conference.
 
The Panthers controlled the first set 25-19, then lost the second 25-20. Drury claimed a 2-1 lead in the match, winning the third set 25-17, but fell behind 9-3 to start the fourth. The Panthers fought back to even the set at 13-13, then won seven of the final 10 points to close out the game.
 
Salma Lewis had a career-high 20 kills to lead Drury, while Stormi Tadlock added 13 kills. Chloe Rear put up a season-high 42 assists and added 16 digs, and Juliana Squire contributed a team-high 24 digs. Drury had four total blocks in the fourth set, one more than they had in the first three sets combined, and Gabby Birmingham finished the afternoon with five block assists, while Kayli Duncan contributed four block assists.
 
Drury is back on the road for their next match as they travel to 16th ranked Central Missouri on Tuesday for a 6 pm game in Warrensburg.
