Bear Buddies Set For U.S. Women’s Am

Off the course, they’re roommates and close friends. On the course, a pair of Missouri State seniors are the first Bears to qualify for the United States Women’s Amateur in 11 years and, together, they give MSU multiple participants in the field for the first time ever.

Faith Belmear and Allison Bray will begin play in the U.S. Am at Chambers Bay Golf Club in suburban Seattle this week. The 156-player field will play two qualifying rounds Monday and Tuesday (Aug. 8-9), with the low 64 advancing to match play starting Wednesday. Bray tees off at 9:55 a.m. (Central) Monday and 2:55 p.m. Tuesday, while Belmear goes off at 11:12 a.m. and 4:12 p.m., respectively.

An Owasso, Okla. native, Belmear qualified last month in Carrollton, Tex., just a week after winning the Missouri Amateur at Norwood Hills C.C. in suburban St. Louis. Bray, from Cape Girardeau, Mo. earned her spot in late June by finishing second in a qualifier in Lawrence, Kan.

Chambers Bay was the site of the 2015 U.S. Open won by Jordan Spieth and will play to a par of 73 at 6,541 yards for this championship. You can follow the action all week long at:  https://www.usga.org/content/usga/home-page/championships/2022/u-s–women-s-amateur.html#!latest.

The pair will begin their final collegiate season at the MSU/Payne Stewart Memorial at Twin Oaks C.C. in Springfield, Sept. 12-13.
