Former Panther Oleksii Khnykin to compete at European Aquatics Championships

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury University’s swimming & diving will be represented at the European Aquatics Championships by two swimmers as former Panther Oleksii Khnykin will compete for Ukraine along with DU swimmer Karol Ostrowski.
 
Khnykin earned a spot in five events, including the 50 Freestyle, the 100 Freestyle, the 50 Butterfly, 100 Butterfly, and he will compete on Ukraine’s 4×100 Free Relay team.
 
Khynkin was on Drury’s squad in 2019-20 and won five All-American awards. The 2020 NCAA-II National Championship was cut short after the first day of competition due to the coronavirus pandemic, but in non-contested events, All-Americans were selected based on qualifying times. Khnykin earned national honors in the 200 Free Relay, the 400 Free Relay, the 200 Medley Relay, the 400 Medley Relay, and he was honorable mention selection in the 100 Fly.
 
Drury’s Karol Ostrowski also qualified for the European Championships and will compete for Poland in the 50 Free, the 100 Free, and the 50 Fly.
 
The European Aquatics Championships run August 11-21 in Rome, Italy. The men’s swimming events start on the first day of competition and run through August 17.
