MoState Finishes Second in Valley All-Sports Race

ST. LOUIS — Fueled by two regular-season titles, three second-place finishes and three MVC Tournament titles, Missouri State finished second in the Missouri Valley Conference All-Sports Trophy race for the 2021-22 season, the league announced Thursday.

The Bears’ aggregate score of 6.942 was second only to winner Illinois State (7.89). It marks the second-straight year that Missouri State has finished second in the league’s comprehensive sports standings. Southern Illinois (6.369), Loyola (6.329) and Indiana State (6.194) round out the top five finishers among the league’s ten schools.

“We had a very good year athletically,” said Missouri State Director of Athletics Kyle Moats. “Our goal is always to win the MVC All-Sports Trophy. Unfortunately, we came up a little short, but that doesn’t take away from all the great moments and successes we had this year.

Missouri State captured Missouri Valley regular-season titles in women’s swimming and men’s soccer and also won MVC Tournament crowns in men’s soccer, softball and baseball. MoState also finished as Valley regular-season runners-up in men’s basketball, women’s basketball and softball.

For the purposes of the MVC All-Sports Trophy, Missouri State’s conference finishes in football (MVFC), men’s swimming (MAC) and beach volleyball (CCSA) are not considered.

Either Illinois State, Missouri State or Wichita State has earned the league’s all-sports championship every year since 1995. Likewise, the Bears have finished in the top five every year since 2014-15, including a first-place finish in 2017-18 and runner-up finishes the past two seasons.
