Josh Day Named Second Team All-SEC

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri baseball shortstop Josh Day was named a second team All-SEC selection, the conference announced on Monday. Day hit .340 with a career-high seven home runs and 29 RBI to help the Tigers to their best offensive season in the SEC.

Day is the first Mizzou player to earn All-SEC recognition since TJ Sikkema in 2019. He is just the fourth Tiger to garner first or second team recognition and the only pure position player to earn an All-SEC nod. Day is also the first Missouri shortstop to earn an All-Conference award since Ian Kinsler was a second team All-Big 12 selection in 2003.

The senior batted .331 in SEC games with five doubles, a triple and three home runs. He produced 17 of his RBI against conference opponents. Four of Day’s five three-hit games this season came against SEC foes, including a pair of three-hit performances at Georgia to close the season.

Day was an integral part of the Tigers lineup which posted a .284 batting average and scored nearly seven runs per game, both program-bests since joining the SEC. He led the club with 50 runs scored, the third-most in the SEC era, and 67 base hits.

The shortstop led the Tigers with 23 multi-hit games in 2022. The mark matched Chris Cornelius’ 2019 campaign for the most multi-hit games in the SEC era. 14 of Day’s multi-hit games came in league action.

Day produced a number of memorable moments in his senior campaign, topped by his walk-off home run to clinch Mizzou’s series victory over defending national champion Mississippi State on May 1. The blast was the first walk-off homer for a Tiger since 2019. He also drove in three runs on three different occasions, including a pair of SEC contests against Kentucky and Mississippi State.
