No. 15 Tigers Open Play at Columbia Regional

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The 15-seed University of Missouri Tigers (36-20) open play at the NCAA Columbia Regional Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. CT. Mizzou softball is set to take on Missouri State for an in-state battle on SEC Network with Tori Vidales and Angel Gray on the call.

The 2022 Columbia Regional marks the second-consecutive season hosting for Mizzou. The Tigers won the 2021 Regional and reached the final game of the 2021 Columbia Super Regional. Limted all-session and single-session tickets are still available here

REGIONAL FIELD

The two teams have not met since 2015 and the Tigers have taken each of the last eight matchups, leading the series at 35-13. The Bears are claimed the Missouri Valley Conference Championship for the first time in 11 years. This marks the second-straight season Mizzou has hosted the MVC Champion, after Northern Iowa was a part of the 2021 Columbia Regional.

The Tigers also host Illinois and Arizona on the other side of the Regional. The Illini and Wildcats face off Friday, following the conclusion of the Mizzou-Missouri State contest. Missouri faced Illinois earlier this season, taking each of the two games on the road.

SEC TOURNEY RECAP

Mizzou reached the SEC Tournament Final for the second time in program history. Jordan Weber and Laurin Krings combined to shut out No. 17/20 Auburn, No. 5/7 Alabama and No. 13/10 Tennessee en route to the title game. Jenna Laird batted .462 over the four games with three multi-hit efforts, including an RBI double for the only run of the game against Auburn.

ALL-REGION TIGERS

Four Tigers earned spots on the NFCA Southeast All-Region teams, Thursday afternoon. Weber was named to the second team while Laird, Kimberly Wert and Brooke Wilmes received third team honors. It marked the second-straight season with four or more honorees for Mizzou.

POSTSEASON JO

After 16 scoreless innings in the SEC Tournament, Weber dropped her career postseason ERA to 0.60. She tossed a memorable no-hitter in the 2021 Columbia Regional finale against Iowa State. In eight postseason appearances, the junior holds a 5-2 record while striking out 40 over 47 innings. Weber has held opponents to a .122 batting average while allowing only one extra base hit.
