Four Tigers Earn NFCA All-Region Honors

COLUMBIA, Mo. – University of Missouri softball had four players named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Southeast All-Region team, the organization announced on Thursday.

Jordan Weber earned second team honors while Jenna Laird, Kimberly Wert and Brooke Wilmes were each named to the third team.

Weber led the Tigers to the SEC Tournament final with a pair of shutouts against No. 17/20 Auburn and No. 13/10 Tennessee. She became the first Mizzou pitcher to record three wins in a single SEC series when she earned the victory in all three games against Kentucky.

At shortstop, Laird has been strong in the field and at the plate. She leads the team with a .346 batting average, 11 doubles, five home runs and 22 stolen bases. The sophomore did not record an error in SEC play and is fielding at a .981 clip overall. Laird was also named Second Team All-SEC.

After setting the Tigers’ all-time home run record, Wert earned a spot on the third team. She has crushed 17 home runs while driving in a career best 52 runs as the designated player. The fifth-year senior earned SEC Player of the Week honors twice on the year before earning a spot on the All-SEC First Team.

Wilmes earned a spot on the third team after crushing a career best 14 home runs on the year. She ranks second in program history with 281 hits and she hold the program record in doubles and extra base hits. Wilmes was named to the All-SEC First Team.

UP NEXT

The 15th-seeded Tigers will open play at the NCAA Columbia Regional on Friday, May 20 at 1 p.m. against Missouri State. Tori Vidales and Angel Gray will call the game on SEC Network.
