Brant Schaffitzel and Nikko Calabro named All-Midwest Region

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.— Drury’s Brant Schafftizel and Nikko Calabro were named to the D2CCA All-Midwest Region Team in a vote of the region’s sports information directors.
 
Schaffitzel, a fifth-year senior, was a First Team All-Midwest Region selection as an outfielder. The Springfield native and Hillcrest High School product led his team with a .435 average. Schaffitzel homered once and drove in 33 runs in 43 games played. He posted a .629 slugging percentage, a .556 on-base percentage, and put down a team-leading 14 sacrifice hits. Schaffitzel was also named to the All-Great Lakes Valley Conference team in this postseason.
 
Calabro was honored as a Second Team All-Midwest Region pick as a utility player. Seeing time at catcher, first base, and designated hitter, Calabro hit .330 with 13 home runs and 59 RBIs in 53 games. The senior from St. John’s, Florida, had a team-leading .670 slugging percentage and hit 17 doubles. He ended his career with 24 home runs, second-most in program history. 
 
The Panthers finished the season 38-16, 21-7 in the GLVC, they won the Green Division championship, and their 38 wins were the third-most in the program’s 16-year history.
